Being able to hypnotize people is an extremely valuable tool to have, imagine for example that a friend of yours has been trying to quit smoking for months with no luck at all. Then you say, “hey I bet I will be able to make you quit”, then 17 minutes later you have completely cured your friends problem. It wouldn’t have to stop there either, when you can hypnotize people you can cure all sorts of different psychological problems, it really is amazing.
The reason I used quitting smoking as an example is because I used to be a 15 a day smoker and I had tried pretty much everything going to try and help me cut down and then finally quit, after months of no luck at all a friend of mine mentioned hypnosis as an option. I had never really thought about using hypnotherapy in this way before (to be honest I was always a little sceptical about that kind of stuff) but I had run out of options so I thought I mite as well give it a try.
Sure enough after I had been to see a hypnotist I stopped smoking just like that, I could not believe how powerful and effective this had been for me. So after that I decided to look a little deeper into the art of hypnotism and when I found out that it is entirely possible to learn hypnosis yourself and be able to hypnotize people, I jumped at the chance of giving it a try. I was actually quite surprised how easy it was to get started, I began to pick it up fairly quickly and was totally amazed at this new power I was learning.
Now a days I am completely confident in being able to hypnotize people and I have cured several of my family and friends problems, even making a little bit of money in the process which is great! So if you are thinking about learning hypnosis then I would definitely say “go for it” because I just think its a fantastic way to help yourself and others (while earning some money in the process). If you do decide to become a hypnotist then I would recommend Jeff Stephen’s Hypnosis Video Workshop because I found it really easy to learn with all the video modules rather than just being given a book to plough through, and there is even a ‘members only’ discussion group in case you run into any problems or just need some advice.

Hypnosis can be a very good way of changing certain things in your life that your not completely happy with, for example a lot of people use hypnotism to be able to lose weight or quit smoking. The main reason why being hypnotized to change things in your life works so well is that you are basically re-programming your mind to do or not do certain things anymore, so it is pretty much effortless.
A lot of people believe that when somebody is hypnotized that they are in a state of ‘sleep’ or unconsciousness but that is not actually the case, in fact the hypnotized person is in a wakeful state with diminished peripheral awareness and obviously a heightened sense of suggestibility. So it is basically like your body is extremely relaxed while your mind is very focused and full of concentration.
There are so many different things in your life that you are able to change by hypnosis, obviously the more common things are, stopping smoking, weight loss and treating phobias. But it doesn’t stop there, hypnotism can pretty much help any kind of psychological aspect of a persons life, even things like stuttering and public speaking. So you can see how hypnosis can help so many people in so many ways.
Posted in history of hypnosis on February 23rd, 2010 by Theo – 2 Comments
The origins of hypnosis go back many, many years as it is one of the oldest therapies used by humans. The Ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks were big believers of hypnotism and they considered it a cure for many emotional as well as physical ailments and disorders. So hypnosis can actually be traced back to more than 6,000 years ago and some people believe it to be even older due to certain cave paintings which appear to depict visions that were seen in an altered level of consciousness, as well as priests in states of trance.
The supposedly first ‘modern’ use of these techniques was by a man called Dr Frantz Anton Mesmer who then called the process ‘mesmerism’, then there followed a long list of others practising mesmerism with quite a lot of public inquiry into the matter. This led to an inquiry by the French government who claimed that mesmerism was fraudulent because it did not function in the way of Mesmer’s first theories about animal magnetism, instead they decided that the therapeutic benefits were actually just down to imagination. Even though Mesmer’s hypnotizing theories about animal magnetism and magnetic vapours were declared as a fraud, scientists carried on studying these techniques.
In the years to follow, the next big name who started to hypnotize people in order to cure problems and diseases was Dr James Braid who accidentally discovered that a person fixating an object could easily reach a state of trance rather than using the mesmeric passes that Dr Mesmer used. In 1841 he published his findings under the name of ‘hypnotism’.
Over the years many more people began to hypnotize people and it started to become a little more main stream and accepted. In the 19th century Sigmund Freud began to use hypnosis but it is thought that he gave it up as he didn’t have the patience that is necessary for hypnosis and was therefore not a very good hypnotist.
In more recent years the benefits of hypnotherapy have become widely used as it can be a great choice for people who want to stop bad habits like smoking or more psychological things like insomnia. Because of stage hypnotists who hypnotize people on stage for the amusement of others started to be shown on television it has become very popular indeed, and so it should as I believe it to be an extremely valuable tool.
